Brand spanking new DVD2OneX

Big news! DVD2OneX 1.4 has been released! It apparently features the new selective ratio engine from the (PC only) DVD2One 1.5, as well as some speed improvements.

Is anyone else having trouble with DVD2ONEX? I have ripped video from DVDs to a hard drive using MacTheRipper2.1, and then try to compress the VIDEO_TS using DVD2ONEX, but keep getting the error message; "an internal error has occurred, muxer" then a box that says encoding complete (though it's not), and click "ok". Sometimes the Mac will even LOCK UP. I get the Multi-Language "You must restart your computer now" (grey box over screen - locked up). I'm using a DP QS (1ghz w/1.5mg ram, os10.3.5). I have a combination of FW, SCSI and ATA drives, all with plenty of room. I even repartitioned my BOOT drive, and made more room, thinking it might be a cache/swap disk problem. No luck. Also interesting, if I rip video that is less than 4.3gb, and try to burn it to toast (without using DVD2ONEX), it will go through the encoding process, and freeze near the end. Current versions of all software installed. Repaired permissions, have copied the files to other drives (using fw/scsi/ata, etc). No luck. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hmm, you seem to have two seperate issues, one with DVD2OneX and one with Toast:

1. DVD2OneX is giving you this strange error 'internal error has occured, muxer'.
This is something I've never heard of, I would recommend you report it ot the makers of DVD2OneX.

2. When you rip a DVD5 (that is a single-layer DVD, i.e. one that is less than 4.4GB) and you drop it onto Toast, Toast starts encoding (?!?!) and then hangs near the end.
This is weird because Toast shouldn't be encoding at all. When you drag-n-drop a VIDEO_TS folder into Toast's DATA tab (choose, DATA tab, then choose 'Advanced' and 'DVD-ROM (UDF)', Toast should start burning the disc in a minute or two (i.e. there is no encoding going on).

DVD2ONEX ISSUE... Yes, I did email the company a few days ago, but haven't gotten any response. Since my posting, I think I realized that I was NOT burning correctly in Toast. I was burning a DVD Video disc - which is why Toast was 're' encoding.

Anyway, I've tried a CLEAN 10.3.5 install with NO other drivers or software installed. Ran DVD2OneX (had to reenter my reg. info), and copied the original (ripped) video OFF of the Firewire drive onto an internal ATA drive, and tried to compress again. I got the same error; "an internal error has occurred muxer" with a 'requestor' button (click to continue), which leads to another requestor box saying that the encoding has finished (click 'ok') even though the progress line is still showing anywhere from 20% to as much as 93% - it's never at the same 'point' that it dies.

I am at a loss with it. I even put a new boot disk in with 15gb free (along with 10.3.5) in case it was a cache/scratch disk issue (as I read on another post). No luck. To make things even 'foggier' after 4 tries on a particular video_ts folder, it DID work, and then failed (repeatedly) on another folder... ?!?*$! ;-)

This is just a guess, but how much RAM do you have? I'm thinking perhaps you have a bad RAM module somewhere - try removing all the RAM and booting up, does DVD2OneX work then?

It'll take a bit of trial and error to figure out which (if any) of your RAM modules has a problem.

Hey Thoughton,

Good thought - funny, I made a list of 'hardware' issues it COULD be, and thought the same thing - I swapped out all 3 RAM modules (1.5gb total) with 3 others, and DVD2OneX worked twice in a row, and AFTER finishing the 2nd time, it quit unexpectly. Then ran 3 times in a row without error!!! But NO 'MUX" errors!

Then the sixth time, I got the dreaded MUX error again! I think you are on the right trail though. I thought that had it fixed, so will restart and try again, and see what happens. By the way, I didn't have ANYTHING else running before or during 'crunch' time. Also, 2 of the ram modules are identical (Transcend 512mb pc133 9431-512-CHP1148) , while the other is a Samsung pc133U-333-542 (probably the one that came with the computer). I'll see how this goes, and might swap out the 'odd' one and try it. The 3 that I used for replacements came from a WORKING machine (that runs DVD2ONEX ok), so feel pretty confident they are ok, and again, that you are on the right 'trail' with your suggestion... Thanks. ps- STILL *NO* response from DVD2ONEX, which is really disappointing.

Hi,
Sorry about the long delay in getting back. We had a little trouble with a HURRICANE down here in Florida! Anyway swapping out ram, and trying everything else... I realized that it COULD be a HEAT issue. I pulled out a SCSI drive and controller, and moved the second video card down away from the AGP card, and the ATA controller card to the bottom-away from both vids, and installed 2 additional fans... To make a long story short, the computer is now running everything ok - DVD2OneX and MacTheRipper - additional problems with Safari have also subsided...

Thanks for the suggestions and the idea about the ram. I did swap it out, but still had SOME trouble, but it got me to thinking, and it seems like it was a heat issue... Hope this helps someone else.

By the way, I never did hear anything back from DVD2OneX!

Hey thats great news. Glad to hear it's all worked out, and hope the giant hurricane wasn't too much of a problem for you.
